Current system analysis

Imported stone with little room for water

The existing sewer system, WaviCore, heavily relies on bluestone import and does not comply with the new stormwater storage capacities. It is designed for only 50 mm of rainfall.

Design brief

Design a sub-layer that substitutes the current bluestone layer and provides additional water-holding capacity for the multinational infrastructure company Wavin.

Every animal-inspired direction became a part: perforated plates, pillar grids, funnels and hex tubes, modelled to compare stiffness, storage volume and how modules lock together.

FINAL PRODUCT

Dome shape

Inspired by the turtle shell, protected from compression forces.

Modular & interchangeable

Modules lock together and swap like puzzle pieces.

100% recycled PE100

Made from recycled pipe-grade plastic.

My role

What I worked on

What I worked on

Biomimicry sketches

Hand-sketched the elephant, bee-hive, ant and dome concepts.

Concept CAD

Modelled the candidate parts and the final dome module in Fusion 360.

Cross-sections & schemes

Drew the current and new street build-ups and the water paths.

Requirement check

Mapped the final module against every load and water requirement.
